Question 1

What UL 752 protection level do I actually need for a transaction window?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the realistic threat your facility faces. UL 752 defines ten levels of protection - Levels 1 through 3 are the most common for commercial transaction windows and are rated to stop handgun fire, which covers the vast majority of armed robbery scenarios at banks, pharmacies, dispensaries, and retail environments across the United States. Levels 4 through 8 cover rifle threats and are typically specified for government, military, or law enforcement facilities. The right answer isn't always the highest level - a Level 8 window at a pharmacy counter adds unnecessary weight, cost, and acoustic challenges. We help you match the protection level to the actual threat, not the worst-case theoretical scenario.

Question 2

What is the difference between an interior and exterior transaction window?

Accepted Answer

This is one of the most important distinctions in the industry and one that buyers often overlook. An interior-rated ballistic transaction window only needs to meet ballistic performance standards - it's protected from weather by the building envelope. An exterior-rated window has to perform against weather as well as ballistic threats. That means it must meet ASTM E 283 for air infiltration, ASTM E 331 for water resistance, and ASTM E 330 for structural load - in addition to its UL 752 ballistic rating. Our aluminum horizontal slide and exterior slide transaction windows meet all of these standards. Using an interior-rated window in an exterior application is both a performance failure and a compliance issue - and it's more common than it should be.

Question 3

Is bullet resistant glass the same as bulletproof glass?

Accepted Answer

No - and the distinction matters. No glazing material is truly bulletproof. Every ballistic glazing product has a rated protection level, and it will eventually fail under sustained fire or fire from a weapon above its rated level. "Bullet resistant" is the accurate, industry-standard term used in UL 752 and across the professional security glazing industry in the United States. When a manufacturer uses the word "bulletproof," they're using marketing language, not technical language. What matters is the specific UL 752 level the product has been independently tested and certified to - and whether that level matches the threat your facility actually faces.

Question 4

Can a bullet resistant transaction window be made to fit our existing opening?

Accepted Answer

Yes - and custom sizing isn't a premium add-on for us, it's how we work. Every transaction window we build at Action Bullet Resistant is custom-engineered to your specific opening dimensions, frame requirements, and architectural conditions. Off-the-shelf sizing is a red flag in this industry because a window that doesn't fit your opening precisely creates gaps in the ballistic envelope - and gaps defeat the purpose. Whether you're retrofitting an existing counter in a bank, pharmacy, or government office across the United States, or specifying for new construction, we build to your opening. Our CAD designers work with your project team to confirm every dimension before fabrication begins.

Question 5

What accessories can be integrated into a bullet resistant transaction window?

Accepted Answer

A transaction window that only stops bullets but makes normal business operations difficult isn't doing its full job. We integrate a full range of accessories directly into the window assembly - including natural voice transmission systems, stainless steel voice rails, speak-thru systems, deal trays, and pass-through drawers for secure exchange of currency, documents, or small items. The key word is integrated. When accessories are added as aftermarket attachments, they can compromise the ballistic envelope at the point of connection. By building them into the assembly from the start, the entire system performs as a single rated unit. This matters whether you're running a bank teller window, a dispensary transaction window, or a government service counter anywhere in the United States.

Question 6

How do I know if a transaction window is genuinely UL 752 certified versus just claimed to be?

Accepted Answer

This is a legitimate concern in a market where self-certification is common. A genuine UL 752 Listed product has been independently tested by Underwriters Laboratories - not just tested by the manufacturer and declared compliant. The UL 752 standard, now in its 12th edition as of October 2023, defines specific test protocols for each protection level, and only products that pass independent testing earn the UL Listed designation. When you're evaluating any transaction window for a facility in the United States, ask the manufacturer for their UL File Number and verify it directly on the UL Product iQ database. At Action Bullet Resistant, our products meet UL 752 standards and full ASTM performance requirements - and we back that with documentation your architect, engineer, or procurement team can verify.
