What a Bullet Resistant Curtain Wall Actually Does

A bullet resistant curtain wall is a non-structural glazing system anchored to the building structure at each floor level, spanning the full height of the facade. Unlike a storefront system — which sits between floor and ceiling on the ground level — a curtain wall covers multiple stories and carries significantly different structural and ballistic demands. It’s the system you specify when the entire building envelope needs to perform. We engineer these systems for facilities across the United States where the threat isn’t theoretical: federal courthouses, financial institutions, police stations, schools, embassies, airports, and corporate campuses. The goal is always the same — a system that stops the threat, passes every test, and looks like it belongs on the building. Our aluminum curtain wall systems are available in frame profiles of 2½” x 7½” or 2½” x 4½”, supplied complete with gasket and setting blocks, and delivered ready-to-assemble from our New York facility.

You can source certified ballistic glazing and still end up with a system that fails — if the frame isn’t designed and tested to the same protection level. A rated glass panel in an unrated aluminum frame is not a bullet resistant assembly. It’s a compliance gap waiting to become a real problem. Our curtain wall systems are engineered as complete, matched assemblies. The frame profiles are designed as non-ricochet type — they capture projectiles and reduce lateral penetration risk. The glazing and framing are rated together, tested together, and delivered together. When you specify our bullet resistant curtain wall system, you’re getting a system, not a collection of components that someone else has to figure out how to combine. This distinction matters most in government and institutional applications, where GSA P100 compliance, DOD criteria, and DOS certification requirements leave no room for specification errors. But it matters just as much in a school or a bank — anywhere that a failure in the field would be measured in something other than dollars.

Our ballistic curtain wall systems are available in clear anodize, dark bronze anodize, and custom painted finishes, with options for aluminum cladding, custom anodized colors, colored interlayers, and glazing tints. The frame profiles match standard architectural curtain wall dimensions. From the exterior, the system is visually indistinguishable from a conventional aluminum curtain wall — which is exactly the point. Modern high-optical-clarity ballistic glazing performs comparably to standard glass in visual terms. Large panes can experience minor warping due to the lamination process, but our fully framed system design minimizes any visible impact. What you see is architecture. What you get is a UL 752-certified security curtain wall system built and tested in the United States.
